One at a Time®

From the Hands of Master Artisans®

Pocketknives
The city of Thiers has been the cutlery capital of France since the Middle Ages. Its many knife making skills have passed from master to apprentice and from father to son through the ages. The pocket knives shown here are individually crafted, no two exactly alike, by a few of the finest craftsmen of Thiers. Blades are of Sandvik 12C27 high-carbon stainless steel unless otherwise specified.

Wooden Mosaic Laguiole

Our knife maker, Monsieur Reyneau of Chabreloche, France creates the scales for this Laguiole from a breathtaking mosaic of exotic woods: ash, boxwood, tulipwood, kingwood, wengewood, and lignum vitae, which he arranges in random patterns against a background of black ebony. 4" blade, 8.5" open.

The Art Of Knife Making

Limited Edition of 200 Pieces

Never before has a pocketknife been made to commemorate the traditional skills of the knife maker. Sculpted into scales of dense French boxwood and black ebony are scenes from the 1800s with the forger on one side, and the grinder on the other. The beauty of the scenes is further enhanced by beautifully cut "platine retourne" or "returned plates" on the spine of each knife. This unusual and difficult technique has been mastered by yet a single artisan in the workshop of Gilles Reynewaeter in Thiers, France.
